    I made yogurt using Silk soy milk light (plain) and the yogurt turned out excellent. I added 1 tsp of agar powder before adding starter. The yogurt turned out excellent and much better than the soy yogurt I had been buying from the health food store.

    "Got it right on the first try!"

    This made creamy, tart, excellent almond milk yogurt, probably not as good as dairy, but I can't have milk products. I used a Euro Cuisine maker,made 'milk' in a blender: 2 1/2 cups Bob's almond meal/'flour' with some water blended on medium for 5 minutes, then added 4 tsp. sugar and one serving rice protein powder (for thickener) and mixed well.Added water to get total of 42 oz. Heated all that touches yogurt in hot water to 'sterilize'. Then heated 'milk', added around 1/4 cup to one jar and whisked in Cultures for Health vegan starter. Took out after 9 hr and 40 min. Then refrigerated overnight. 10 gm protein/serving! Commercial almond milk would be less protein because it is only one gram of protein per cup. Plus it has additives that change the taste. For those allergic to dairy, as I am: the casei in yogurts is not a dairy product-took me a long time to figure that out!

    "Great Soy Yogurt!"

    Thank you! I went vegan a little over a year ago. The hardest part was giving up dairy yogurt -- I had existed on at least a carton a day of Dannon Coffee Yogurt for 40 years! I tried commercial non-dairy yogurts and was just getting to think that one particular soy version was OK, when they stopped making it. It has been unavailable in our area for several months now. Totally frustrated, I ordered some of your vegan yogurt starter and dug out a yogurt maker I hadn't used for several years. I also bought a Euro Cuisine Greek yogurt strainer. Well, it is awesome! I use Edensoy Unsweetened Soy Milk with some extra soy milk powder (1/2 cup per quart of the milk) and the starter. I can use the unsweetened yogurt for cooking, or sweeten it a little for eating. I can even make my own coffee yogurt :-) No more megadoses of sugar, additives, etc., no more rubbery or chalky-tasting yogurt, and no more frustration at the empty soy yogurt shelves at the grocery store!

    It is difficult to find Soy Yogurt ,plain without fruit or sugar. Then I found you and your starter. My Soy Milk and your starter have made my Vegan menu complete. I add the culture and use oven method for 8 hours and out comes deliscious and tangy yogurt; better than any I could find,( when I could find it!!!!)

    First time using the Vegan yogurt starter and my yogurt maker; and neither let me down. The yogurt similar in texture to tapioca; but I like tapioca. It (cashew milk) set solid and I used a little more calcium water than instructed and I let it cook for 12 hours not 8-10. I flavored it with dried cranberries once and whole canned cranberries the second time. Making my own yogurt is half as expensive and the store bought is 45min away. I am lactose intolerant so this kit lets me have one of my favorite foods again. I recommend this to anyone who loves yogurt the Vegan style.

    I bought and started using the Greek starter in January. The first little batch was thin and needed straining, but the other batches I have made have been wonderful. Sometimes I strain them for a thicker "greek-style" yogurt, sometimes not - great either way. Perfect with berries.

    "Excellent yogurt starter that fits my method of yogurt making"

    I always strain my yogurt, extracting a volume of whey equal to the volume of strained yogurt. From half gallon of pasteurized, organic, whole milk I get a quart of thick yogurt. So I cannot comment on the thickness of unstrained yogurt made with this starter. I know that for my method, using a Yogurmet yogurt maker and cheesecloth for straining, it is perfect. I save out starter from my new batch and use it for the next batch (about 1/3 cup to culture the half gallon of milk). The flavor and effectiveness are still there after the 5 batches that I have made so far. This is a big money saver in the long run. I only wish that, with so many different yogurt starters available from Cultures for Health you would make it more obvious from the package which cultures can be reused, like this one, and which are one-time cultures.

    "A great value for tasty, mild homemade yogurt."

    I bought this culture a few months back and really like the quality. I read the instructions and followed them for refreshing the culture. At first, it looked like the culture would fail, but after having it fully refreshed (the longest incubating time was 7 hours for 1 quart of milk for the refreshing period), I have incubated many times with great results. I normally use regular whole milk or 2% and heat it to 180 degrees and hold it there for 5 minutes and chill it in an ice bath to get it down to incubating temperature faster. I use an older yogourmet incubater and incubate for roughly 4.5 hours each time and the result is a firmer (NOT like store bought firm, but firm enough that on a spoon it holds shape and the impression in the yogurt remains). I save some in a mason jar for starter culture for the next batch and strain the rest further for wonderfully thick Greek yogurt. I use it for recipes like homemade frozen yogurt, smoothies, and dessert toppings. Very mild taste that my children prefer over store bought. To make a great mild tasting vanilla flavor, I use 1/4 c. agave, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract and mix with whisk in 4 cups of yogurt. For a sweeter version of vanilla and for freezing I increase the agave to almost 1/2 cup, but that is more like store bought frozen yogurt sweetness. I prefer this culture over the sachets from the health food store for yogurt culturing. This by far is a better deal. It lasts months and I still have the back up culture in my fridge. (So about 5 months of using it and it still works wonderfully).

    I make this yogurt with organic 2% milk and 1/3 cup of powdered non-fat dry milk. It is mild...unless I forget about it and it incubates too long, in which case it is still edible, just a bit tart. I sometimes strain it for thicker yogurt if the family is patient. We eat it primarily in smoothies but also with fruit and homemade granola. It doesn't last long! I have two yogurt makers and make batches every week! Also, the live culture stands up well to multiple uses. Very hardy strains! Re-buying because someone ate my culture...

    This was my first attempt at making yogurt. The price is great for making unlimited batches of yogurt, they also include an extra starter just in case. I used the Euro cuisine and filled 2 1/2 jars with the starter culture. It took 10 hours for the yogurt to set up (so make sure you hang in there!), however the next batch i made only took about 6. I'm very happy with this and can't wait to make more.

    Great product with over-the-top explaination of use, yet understandable to the lay person. The culture worked perfectly (even though I had my dehydrator set too high initially) and set up very nicely. I like the consistency of the yogurt better than using storebought as a starter & perpetuating the mother culture each week is not difficult. I make raw milk yogurt only heating to 110 degrees & have to strain to thicken it, but it's smooth, creamy & full or probiotics!

    After the initial activation step, I've been re-culturing the starter for about 2 years now. I still have the second half of the original starter that i bought though I'm not too sure if that's still good. In the beginning I was somewhat skeptical regarding how long the re-culturing process would last but 2 years later and it's still going strong. I usually make 2 quarts every 4-5 days using skim milk. While its true that whole milk and 2% make a thicker/creamier yogurt. To get thick yogurt using skim milk: 1)Stir in 1 Tbls of gelatin prior to initial heating. Make sure it is thoroughly dissolved. **i set aside about 6 oz WITH OUT gelatin which i culture separately in a small jar. this is what i use as my starter next time** 2)Cool and incubate as you normally would. 3)After 6 hours (that;s how long its always taken me @ 110F) stir in sweetener/flavoring. 4)Since skim milk lacks fat, after mixing the yogurt looks slightly grainy and not fully emulsified. I use a Immersion blender to completely homogenize the yogurt which also fully mixes the sweetener. 5)It will look runny but it fully firms up in the fridge with the aid of the gelatin. I've never once run into a problem with this method. The addition of the gelatin doesn't make it into solid jello mass but simply helps it re-coagulate. You don't taste the gelatin either. I normally don't write review and certainly not ones as long and wordy as this one has turned out to be. But i felt that 2 years of successfully culturing my own yogurt from that first initial activation was worthy of a good review.

    "love this starter"

    After many attempts to get this yogurt right, I finally made the perfect yogurt. I went through 8 to 10 litres of whole pasturized organic milk, but found the fat would float to the top and the yogurt beneath was very grainy. I couldn't understand why it was not the smooth creamy yogurt described on the website. Then I decided to try HOMOGENIZED whole pasturized organic milk and it worked! I am now making beautiful smooth creamy white yogurt! The girls on the chat line where so kind and helpful, but I think stumped as to why my yogurt was turning out the way I was describing. So I hope that anyone out there who is having the same difficulties doesn't give up, give homogenized milk a try. This starter makes delicious yogurt!

    "Terrific Mild Flavored Yogurt"

    The mild flavor yogurt culture is awesome! I couldn't be happier with the way it turns out with never a disappointment. I let it incubate for about 6 to 7 hours and can alway be sure of a wonderful consistency. This make fabulous greek yogurt although I might let it drain a bit longer than necessary but the final product is great. I have become very popular with my neighbor and dear friends that I share this special treat. Because I live so far away from any store, I use nonfat dry milk and add a half cup of heavy cream to a gallon and a half of reconstituted milk. I don't want too much cream because of being conscious of my weight as well as my dog who also enjoys the yogurt. The vet said it is good for his digestion. Anyway, along with other reviewers, thank you so much for having this variety available. I enjoy the other yogurt cultures and use them for the liquid in bran muffins, but for a great treat, the mild yogurt flavor is my favorite.

    We make 2 quarts at a time in a Yogourmet yogurt maker, using a long ferment (12-15 hours). We switched from using Yogourmet starter to this Traditional Flavor Yogurt Starter. It produces a more firm yogurt and there is less separation of the whey. The taste is delicious.

    I'm fairly new to the yogurt making, and it scared me a bit... Taste of this culture wasn't-the-same-as-but-reminded-me-of the Brown Cow unsweetened yogurt... This is the first batch of yogurt I felt safe eating instead of just baking with it. Best smell, texture, and flavor of my attempts so far. I was really happy to find this nothing but culture starter (no maltodextrin) that I can use with my favorite un-homogenized, grass-fed milk. I only used 1/2 packet for a quart of milk, and since this comes with 8 packets (and I can save my yogurt to make a few back-to-back batches without opening more packets), this culture will last me for a long time.     This starter did just what it said! My first batch turned out perfectly, as did the second! The taste isn't as tart as I expected, but I think I can let it incubate a bit longer to get more tartness. My first batch I set the timer for 8 hours but the yogurt was well set at 7, so I stopped the incubation. The consistency is so smooth - MUCH better than when I was using yogurt itself as the starter. I use a Euro Cuisine Yogurt maker, but I use 8 oz freezer cups instead of the 6 oz glass jars, and it turns out perfect every time!! Looking forward to trying other Cultures for Health starters! Thanks for a GREAT experience!

    After failure after failure trying to make almond milk yogurt with the vegan starter I gave up !That went on for over a year... so I said the heck with it & decided to try cows milk yogurt using the starter that came with my yogurt maker.. success!!!! Since I ran out of the starter that came with my yogurt maker I thought I would try your regular starter & began with this one. It came out fantastic- it is taking much restraint to only have one serving a day. I do add about 5 TBSP of powdered milk per quart, and the results are perfect- thick and creamy. I use low temp pasteurized low fat cows milk. I may just experiment with some coconut milk since I have a few cans on hand. I love this yogurt so much I purchased the extra layer for the Cuisine machine and the 8 extra jars so I will never find myself without yogurt !

    I'm really surprised so many people are having difficulty with this. I have only tried the Viili culture, but have used it multiple times now. I used pasteurized homogenized whole milk, nothing special, let it set for at least 24 hours and then put it in the frig. I then add Maple Syrup and I have a wonderful yogurt drink. It does never get solid, but its thick and creamy and wonderful as a drink. Very pleasant tasting.

    We've had some Viili in the house since last Fall, and it's been terrific. It did take awhile for the starter to get going, but it's been strong and steady since then. It's a runnier yogurt that breaks up easily, but works terrific in smoothies and with granola/meusli, etc. Nice, mild taste. Takes about 24 hrs to ferment in a 72 degree house.

    "PERFECT - Easy - Tasty"

    I purchased this product because it is kosher. I used 1/8 teaspoon to 4 cups Organic Whole Milk and my Dovier yogurt maker. I set the time for 9 hours. The taste is lovely. Not as strong as I thought it would be when I opened the lid. 1 teaspoon of honey is more than enough to sweeten perfectly! It came out a bit more 'liquidy' than the store bought I'm used to, but I will try 10 hours next time, and maybe draining for a couple hours. This is just a personal preference - not a reference to the product. Thanks for carrying a consumer size, reliably Kosher product!

    I am diabetic so I use Half and Half, with no sugar. Use ball mason 2 cup jars fit the cuisine machine perfectly. I use 2 and it makes the best yogurt. I put 6 tablespoons of plain store bought yogurt in the h & h and shake it cold in the quart of h & h,pour it in the 2 cup mason jars and put it for 13 hours in the 110 degree cuisine yogurt maker and I have the best yogurt. I don't have to make greek out of it because it is creamy. I do not heat it to 200 degrees, I just put it in cold. I tried goats,almond,etc and this turns out the best. Try it you'll love it.

    Well, I was delighted and excited when I got the yogurt-maker! I decided to try Dark Chocolate Almond milk first. I heated, added the agar, stirred then added the culture. Poured into the jars and placed them into the maker. Then went to bed. When I got up, the stuff was still liquid...then I realized I never turned on the switch! The second batch was soy milk and well *two thumbs up* from then on!

I like that it is just a 2qt piece rather than several small jars, but I dislike washing dishes so it is more of a preference thing! This model specifically came out with fantastic reviews and for good reason: It is PERFECT for natto. I've already made 3 batches with it and it came out perfect each time: sticky, stinky and DELICIOUS lol. Comes with a thermometer and a cotton cheesecloth which is fantastic because it saves you a trip to the store. The cheesecloth especially was a great surprise because I needed one and then when I opened the box, there it was! Yeah, great yogurt maker, can't go wrong!     I used my Yogotherm Yogurt Incubator to make 2 quarts of yogurt from raw goats milk. It worked beautifully! I did heat a quart of water to boiling, put that into a covered mason jar and set mason jar inside of the Yogotherm to help bring the insulation temperature up while I heated my milk to 110 degrees. I did this because it's still winter and we keep our house relatively cool (about 65 degrees). I put the 2 quarts of heated milk into the pail, whisked in my starter, covered it and left it to culture for 8 hours on my kitchen counter. The yogurt is set and seems to be nice and thick for a raw milk yogurt. I'm very pleased with my purchase. I will admit that I was skeptical at first, but now that I've used it, I feel it is a good value with reliable results that I would happily recommend to anyone.

    The main reason I purchased this yogurt maker is because it has a glass jar, rather than a plastic jar. It is OK, so far. The price was of the machine itself was OK, but when you add shipping costs to Canada and the exchange rate, it was rather expensive. It claims to warn you with a beep when the yogurt is ready, but it did not beep. The yogurt was runny, but other than that, it is OK. CFH Note ~ The activation batches of an heirloom yogurt starter may be a little runny or lumpy but the texture will thicken up within the next batch or two. Be sure to make a new batch every 5 to 7 days to ensue the viability of the starter.

    Surprised to see a few folks that didn't have success with the second tier. I do usually throw a towel over the "incubator" just cuz it's winter and that's what we do to keep ourselves warm. I suspect that this is probably pretty key to keeping the temp a little better equilibrated for the upper deck. Otherwise for $8 it's a no brainer

    the yogurt I placed on the top tier didn't stay warm enough to set. I removed the top jars and placed them inside the yogurt maker and they set up after an additional 4 hours. I was disappointed because the idea of the top shelf is great! Response from CFH: Be certain to test the temperature in your yogurt maker. It may be helpful to cover the unit with a towel or something similar depending on the temperature in your yogurt maker.     I use this for making my kefir whey, and cream cheese. It's the perfect size. I can put a half gallon...or less...into the bag and hang it over a glass bowl to drain. It's clean and easy. You boil it before and then rinse it and boil it to clean it when you are finished. Then hang dry and store! Just what I needed~!

    "~~ What you need when the milk spills! ~~"

    I have been making yogurt in my Yogotherm for years now and absolutely love it. No matter where we are I can still make a successful batch due to no electric power needed. HOWEVER once in a while someone jogs the freshly cultured milk and milk spills out of the pail and penetrates this styrofoam insulator. Although I immediately wash it, I have yet to find a way to get it perfectly clean so after a while mold beings to grow! Yuk! Time to purchase a replacement. I am SO thankful that Yogotherm sales replacements. Now I am back to a "like new" Yogotherm and hoping no spills will happen. Due to it not normally coming into contact with the yogurt/milk this insert does not require cleaning after each use. I think this is the second or third insert I have purchased from Cultures for Health. Their service, shipping and prices have always been good. Happy yogurt making!

    Although I absolutely love my Yogotherm, I do not like the design of the pail lid. Maybe it's just me but I find that after a while black mold starts to grow in the crevice of the lid. I wash it carefully after each use but I think this is the third pail I am on now. I do make yogurt every week so this is in almost constant use. To clean the mold out you have to use a thin sharp knife which of course then creates a fine cut making a further growing ground. After so many cleans I discard the pail and purchase a new one. Does it put me off using a Yogotherm? No! This yogurt maker is SO versatile. No matter where we are I can still make a successful batch due to no electric power needed.     I love this strainer. It holds up to half a gallon of yogurt at a time, comes with its own lid. We make yogurt weekly using fresh milk from our cow share program. We follow the basic recipe, including heating the milk up to 182 degrees, then letting the temp fall to about 110 degrees before adding culture. When the yogurt is done, we refrigerate it, usually overnight, then put all of it into the Greek Yogurt Maker. We have drained yogurt anywhere from 3 to 24 hours. At 24 hours it is like a thick cream, better than ice cream. We usually eat it with a little maple syrup and/or some fruit or fruit jam. Best thing is, we are both lactose intolerant, but the drained off whey contains most of the remaining lactose, so we can eat yogurt without GI issues. Love this kitchen tool!

    I've made goat yogurt for many years. It was always great but had the tendency to be more liquid than I liked. I've had this yogurt maker for almost 2 weeks. I can't begin to tell you the great, smooth, silky, & thick the consistency is now. It is so rich that we are eating it quicker than I can replenish the container.
