Recipe: Homemade Arnica Salve

Arnica flowers are a common herb used to soothe bruises, sprains, and strains. Keep this homemade salve on hand for those inevitable falls and bumps.

  1. Make an herbal oil infusion using either the simmer method or the solar method as detailed here..
  2. Once the oil has been infused with the arnica flowers, strain the oil from the flowers and place the oil over a double boiler. Add in the emulsifying wax and heat, stirring frequently, just until the beeswax has begun to melt.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the peppermint essential oil. Decant the salve mixture quickly into tins. Allow to cool completely before using.

To Use:

  • Apply salve to bruises, strains, and sprains liberally, as needed for pain and swelling.
  • Please note that this is not meant for use on open wounds.
