    Reviews

"Very thin -- and yes, that is the point, but..."

Especially for straining out yogurt and cream cheese, I strongly prefer an unfolded cloth diaper. This has very very thin material, it does not hold up to washing or re-use -- and as such, I found it expensive too. The unfolded cloth diapers I use instead are a good deal thicker, and yet still maintain the bird-eye weave for good draining, are hemmed, and can be re-used hundreds of times. Because that product is available in other places, I find this one a poor expenditure. I'm sorry. :(

    "Exactly What I needed "

I purchased this with the cream cheese starter. It was perfect and exactly what I needed. Cleaned and sterilized it after use and ready to do the next batch.

I've use the muslin several times now it washes up nicely and keeps its shape well.

"the packaging is much more eco friendly"

the packaging is much more eco friendly than the new boxes the cultures come in. I liked that.

    - MARGARET

    "Great product!"

Excellent for straining almond milk. I like the strength of the material and that it can be washed/reused.

    - Nita

    "Excellent"

The performance of the butter muslin was Excellent. My only suggestion: larger in one dimension would be safer. A double-thickness is recommended for cream cheese, and when the cloth is folded in half, it becomes a little narrow. I was concerned the cheese might spill over the sides (it didn't).

    "Tiny!"

I ordered the basic thermometer, but it turned out to be a mini thermometer. Very tiny and dials are hard to read! Response from CFH: The details section note this thermometer has a 1-inch dial display and is 5 inches long.

    - MAY

    "Basic it is"

There is nothing fancy, just a "Basic Thermometer." If you don't need accuracy or long reach it will do a fine job.

    - Chugchug

"Easier than what I was using."

When I decided to make my own yogurt, I was using a candy thermometer -- something I already had. This is much easier to position and read.

    - BuckIrose

    "Neutral"

The thermometer works but disagrees with my other thermometers. I have two others that show to add starter at a lower temperature. I don't know which is most accurate. Also, the round top dial is very small and hard to read. Response from CFH: Thermometers can be calibrated. Please contact Customer Support for advice or for replacements for defective products.

    Small Ricotta Basket and Container

    Reviews

"Small Ricotta Basket Containers work great"

I purchased these after visiting the gourmet kitchen supply store in town. They had one basket identical to these for $20.00. I took the basket to the counter and asked the clerk if the pricing was correct and she confirmed. I told her that it was a crazy outrageous price. Came home and googled and found this site. The price was great! I would definitely recommend buying these if you are making Ricotta Cheese. I have tried home made baskets and strainers and these by far were the easiest and cheapest I could find.

    "Sturdy and well made. "

Sturdy and well made. I've only had it for a short time, but so far I'm pleased with it. It works nicely for draining our kefir cheese. It can be a little hard to get some of the dry bits out of the inside of the bag, but turning it inside out helps.

    Reviews

    "Love it"

We started making cheese about a year ago when I retired. At first I used an icing spreader to cut the curd. That was fine with 1 gallon of milk but when we started making large amounts it became more difficult. I love the length, the quality and find it to be a good value for the cost.

"Reasonable price, Good Tool For The Job."

Good Tool for the job. I purchased this for making mozzarella. Nice sized, decent quality for the price.

    "Good quality, will be useful"

I purchased the curd knife to use when I make cottage cheese. I haven't made it yet, but the knife appears to be long enough to be useful, and of good quality. It is something I have never seen in a store. I am pleased with the size, quality, and affordability, and I would not hesitate to purchase it again.

Large capacity cheese mold with pressing plate for making hard cheese.
    $17.99

Hard Cheese Mold with Pressing Plate 4 lb. Capacity

    Reviews

"Excellent quality and easy to use."

I've been looking for a mold like this one simply because it has a well drained bottom on it. Makes it much easier to use than the bottomless hard chees molds than I have been using. It's a perfect size for 4 lb. cheeses, good quality build and plastic and it holds up well under pressure.

    - WayneT

    "My favorite cheese press"

Yes press is a great size. It will hold up to a 4 gallon vat size. I uses most for a 2 gallon vat. I highly recommend this cheese mold form!

    - Debi

    "Decent size Mold"

I have used this mold 3 times now. Two hard cheese and one semi-hard. On the hard cheeses (press at 40lbs) and two gallons of milk (1.8 lbs of cheese) it is just a little to big. On the semi-soft cheese and 3 gallons of milk (press at 8 lbs and 3.2 lbs of cheese) it is about the right size.

    - RatherBBBoating

    "Just the right size"

I have been struggling with cheesemaking with a too-small mold. This one is perfect, has a bottom and a pressing plate is sturdy and easily lined and filled. So glad I bought it.

    - nocookie4u

"Great product...perfect size for not huge batches!!"

Looks sturdy enough for the use I expect to put it through!!

    "A beautiful mold"

These are Mad Millie cheese molds. I make home made cheeses weekly. These molds are by far my favorite. Heavy duty with plenty of draining holes. Closed bottom. The follower (pressing plate) fits well. These are out of New Zealand and are harder to find. The BEST OF THE BEST!!!

  • Feta Mold with Brining Container

Includes a brining container for ripening the feta in the refrigerator.
    $11.29

    Feta Mold with Brining Container

    Reviews

    "Eh"

I bought this mold to make feta. I asked before ordering, if the mold would hold cheese made from a gallon of milk, and was assured that it would. The good news is that the curds did fit. The bad news is that there is almost no room for the brine. Also- not sure what I was thinking; feta is made in blocks, not in round containers. Not sure what I will use this for but know that I won't be using it for feta. Response from CFH: Feta is often made in the round container with great results - you actually need very little brine, and you don't want any brine to spill over. Too much brine results in a squishy/mushy cheese, and we sure don't want that! We do hope you'll try again with it!

    - BB

    "Makes cheese making easier"

I brined my first feta cheese last week. This is wonderful and makes brining a breeze. Good quality and value which makes cheese making easier.

    - Julia

    "High quality very useful."

This is one of my favorite molds! It works great for brining and keeps everything compact. I have 4 of them and it is enough for my large batch feta. A little expensive but high quality is what you pay for.

    ""Large" Ricotta Container"

I was thoroughly disappointed in the size of the container. It isn't "large" at all. If you're going to go to the trouble of making your own ricotta, you'll need a much large container for storing in fridge. Response from CFH: We are sorry for your disappointment! We included the dimensions in the product description, and we apologize if that was not helpful.

  • Chevre Mold

    For shaping chèvre cheese.
    $5.50

    Chevre Mold

    Reviews

    "simple and easy"

It's simply a cup with small drainage holes, but works well for its intended purpose. After draining chevre in cheesecloth for 3+ hours, I fill these cups, weight them, and set them over drainage mats overnight and they produce nice cylinders of cheese by morning.

    - hana

"Just OK - muslin better for chevre"

Produced a wet curd even after 16 hours of drainage. Holes are too small for chevre purposes. Response from CFH: Our Cheese Expert recommends lining this mold with a cheesecloth and adding a jar of water on top as a weight.

    "Good quality small molds "

I already had 4 of these molds and found them to be very useful for small soft cheese but also realized quickly you need a lot of them even for a small batch. Was making Catamount cheese and need at least 6 and possibly even 8 of these molds to get the proper height for the cheese. Good quality, drain well and sterilize and clean easily.

    "For any soft cheese"

They are very good for making any kind of soft cheese. Good quality they come in single packages. I'm buying more.

    - Davide

"Why a mold for feta anyhow?"

Authentic look? The mold may be good for draining feta and other cheeses, but feta traditionally is cut into pieces before it's salted and brined. Response from CFH: Some people like to brine their feta whole...it makes for a pretty presentation if you're selling it or giving it as a gift. The molded feta also looks beautiful when coated with nuts, berries or herbs. A molded feta is much easier to ship than a jar filled with cubes and brine. There are many reasons for offering this product, but the most important one is that we want our customers to be able to find what they want. If someone wants molded feta, we want to make sure that we have a mold for them. :)
