The Automatic Euro Cuisine Yogurt Maker is reliable and temperature controlled. The YM100 model has an automatic shut-off function timer that turns off the unit automatically at the end of the cooking cycle.

The yogurt maker has seven 6-ounce glass jars that can make up to 42 ounces of yogurt and the option of making seven different flavors at a time. This unit easily produces yogurt using the freshest ingredients without any artificial additive or preservatives.

Each jar comes with a bpa-free plastic screw-top lid for easy storage after the yogurt is made. The glass jars are dishwasher safe and the unit has a 3-year manufacturer warranty.

    • I have had this yogurt maker for many years. I just began to use it again. In the book it says something about only use the starter once I do not understand. Don't I always have a starter going forward devoting one jar to my next batch?

    • The instructions that come with the yogurt maker often refer to using direct-set (single-use) yogurt starter or even using store yogurt as starter. In those cases, you may be able to re-culture using a small amount of your previous batch as starter for the next batch. Eventually, you will need some fresh starter or store yogurt.

      There are also heirloom (reusable) cultures, such as our Greek and Bulgarian Starters, that are reusable indefinitely, as long as you make a new batch every 7 days.

    • It says on the directions to only use your homemade yogurt for culture once! Does this mean once the next batch is made I can no longer use the strain and need to buy more culture?
    • The directions assume you are using a direct-set starter or yogurt from the store as your starter.

      If you are using an heirloom yogurt starter, you will be able to reculture the strain indefinitely if proper culturing guidelines are followed.

    • What temp does it incubate at? could it be used for raw milk yogurt?
    • This appliance should operate anywhere from 105-112ºF. It may be used to make raw milk yogurt, depending on the type of starter used. If the yogurt starter requires 105-112ºF to culture the milk, this machine would work fine.

    • Can this unit be used for other cultures such as sourcream?
    • Sour cream cultures at room temperature, between 70ºF and 80ºF. Yogurt makers operate at about 110ºF. Therefore, using a yogurt maker would kill the culture and would not work for culturing sour cream.

    • Viili is a mesophilic yogurt culture that works at room temperature (70° to 77°F). A yogurt maker is designed to maintain a temperature of 110°, perfect for a thermophilic (heat activated) yogurt but way too warm for Viili.

    • Yogurt makers run at approximately 110º which is about 10º too warm and will kill the natto culture.

    • I use raw milk & have read that it's only necessary to heat the milk too 110 degrees if I don't want to pasteurize it. Why would the milk be heated to 180 & then cooled to 110?
    • If you plan to use a direct-set starter, you only need to heat your milk to 110°. A reusable culture like the Greek or Bulgarian requires a small amount of milk to be heated to create a separate mother culture. Just a little cooking and chemistry and there you have the makings for some really good homemade yogurt. The maker is so simple to use and the yogurt is really tasty. You'll need to experiment a little with the total fermentation time; too long and the result is a little curdled on the bottom of the jars. A slightly shorter time results in a smooth and creamy yogurt, not too sharp, not too dull. This is a fun way to make all the yogurt you want.

I've been making my own yogurt for years with a yogurt maker I picked up in a second-hand store. However, that maker went haywire awhile ago and overheated. I heard about Cultures for Health on a cooking show on NPR and got interested in the heirloom strains of yogurt. Before I had been mixing some of my favorite commercial brands as starter. The heirlooms were interesting, a little complicated by all the choices, but I didn't have a good way to keep them heated while culturing. So I tried the Yogotherm. But it is just too cold in my uninsulated house in the winter, I couldn't regularly get a good culture even by wrapping the Yogotherm in a down vest. Finally, I decided to order the Euro Cuisine Yogurt Maker. I have only tried it twice so far but it is so easy and fits well into my busy life. yummmm.

I am usually leery of single-use gadgets, especially those that take up a lot of storage space. This is one that passed my "must have" test. Here's why I love it:
1. GLASS JARS! Easy to clean, no worries about the possibility of nasty chemicals leaching into my kids' yogurt. Oh, and the single-serve thing is just genius. Pop one out of the 'fridge and give directly to hungry kiddo (Mom-if you're reading this, don't worry. The baby has hers spooned into a baby-proof bowl).
2. The timer. Sure, you need to fetch the jars after they're finished and get them into the 'fridge; however, if you're like me, you lose track of time. I'd rather the yogurt sit there at room temp for a little while than continue cooking away while I'm off doing whatever it is I do all day...and, for the sake of honesty, setting an outside timer isn't quite in the cards for me. I have an older oven with a timer that could wake the dead, so having a soft chime is lovely - especially since I have children who nap. :-)
3. The unit is a snap to clean. No nooks or crannies - just wipe it down with a damp cloth.
4. Are you still here? GO BUY THIS! :D

I have used this for about 5 batches of yogurt so far & have no complaints.

One suggestion, would be nice if it had a small knob or handle on the top of the cover to facilitate lifting the cover.

I would recommend this to anyone.

This is my first yogurt machine. Works fine, no complaints, just a suggestion. If it had a handle on the top of the lid to pick up the lid it would be perfect!

I would definitely recommend this yogurt maker.
