    • Can these bottles be sterilized in boiling water?
    • Yes, but I would recommend removing the metal piece with its cap. The caps could become deformed when heated to boiling, especially if left unattended. They are fairly easy to remove once you get used to them.

    • We use your grolsch flip-top bottles are are wondering the best cleaning method between fermenting water kefir. We are noticing residue and do not want to use harsh cleaners or anything that would affect the fermentation.

    • It's good to avoid harsh cleaners, particularly anti-bacterial detergents. I'd recommend a bottle brush for easier cleaning.

    • I am very disappointed to see that these come from China...I need some, but, hope to find some made in the USA.

Do you have any plans to stock USA made bottles in the future?

      Thank you!
    • We have searched for a US manufacturer for the bottles, it appears that none are making this style of bottle.

    • If I'd like to do a second brewing stage on Kombucha, where would I find more information? I'm going to be on GAPS (a variation of the SCD) and regular sugar is a big no-no, but fruits and honey are okay. I was thinking that perhaps a continuous brew of the regular Kombucha and then adding fruits for flavor and giving them a second ferment- but I can't have alcohol either... as I'm nursing. I'm not sure where to ask these questions.
    • You will find information about a second fermentation here: http://www.culturesforhealth.com/bottling-kombucha-and-water-kefir Kombucha requires regular sugar for fermentation, you will find more information about choosing ingredients here: http://www.culturesforhealth.com/kombucha-ingredients We would encourage you to contact your health care provider to discuss drinking Kombucha while nursing.

    • Does the side wire supposed to come down to seal the top on the opening of the bottle? Because mine does not closes tight but I can't get the side wire down. Please tell me what's normal.
    • Yes, the side wire flips down to seal the top but the tops can be a little stiff when they are new. They will loosen up as you use them.

    • Is the amber color necessary? I have some of this type of bottle that used to contain lemonade, soda, etc., from a retail store. I considered washing them and using them for Kombucha, but they are clear.
    • No, the amber color is not necessary. You can totally use the ones you have! They would probably be perfect.

  • From Ann from AK at 12/11/11 11:30 PM
    • Are these bottles sturdy enough to bottle homemade ginger beer from ginger beer plants? I like to have them sit on the counter for a couple of days to get the carbonation level I like. They won't explode, will they?
    • These bottles are very sturdy. They are the same type of bottles used to bottle beer, kombucha, and other carbonated beverages. As with any fermented product, you should exercise caution when storing the bottles for a long time at room temperature, but several days should be fine.

The turnaround time from Cultures for Health was very quick. When I received my order of Grolsch bottles one of them was broken. I chatted online with a customer service representative. She apologized and a replacement bottle was shipped out the next day.

I will definitely be doing business with this company again. And I love all of the helpful videos.

Love these for kombucha. After I've let the kombucha sit and it's ready for drinking, I put the liquid in these bottles and they rest in the fridge. Nothing bubbles out and they keep my kombucha nice and bubbly, tasty and fresh. Love them. I just put a few drops of liquid soap in them with water and I shake the bottles. Clean up right away.
