Grolsch Flip-top Bottle (750 ml)

Availability: In stock

$4.99

Details

Bottling your kombucha tea or water kefir with some fruit juice allows the carbonation to increase making for a delicious, healthy, and fizzy probiotic beverage your whole family will enjoy.

750 ml amber-colored glass bottle with flip-top (Grolsch-style) stopper system made of metal, polymer, and plastic. The bottles are 11-7/8" tall, or 12-3/8" with the lids on.

Please note: when using the bottles for any product that will be under pressure (water kefir, kombucha, beer, lacto-fermented soda, etc.) be sure to check the bottle for cracks prior to each use as cracks will weaken the integrity of the bottle. We also recommend "burping" the bottles periodically to relieve excess pressure.

Why I Love This Product

Although mason jars with good seals work, flip-top bottles are by far the best for second ferments. They look sleek, and seal fabulously to help your cultured drinks create great carbonation. I own 16 of these bottles, split between water kefir and kombucha. My favorite drink is grape flavored water kefir. I fill the bottle with water kefir to just below where the neck narrows, then add about ¼ cup organic grape juice. It cultures 48 hours on the counter with a “burping” at 24 hours to release any gases. By the 36th-48th hour I have fizzy carbonated grape kefir that is poured over frozen blueberries. It’s amazing!

    • These seem great, but out do you wash them out?
    • A thin scrub brush generally works. Kitchen supply stores often have these as do beer/wine making supply stores. They also generally get reasonably clean in a dishwasher.

    • This is $4.99 per bottle? Would I be able to purchase a case? I am looking for a 12-24 bottles total.
    • You can buy as many as you like - but if you want a large quantity, you might look locally at a beer/wine making supply store. They usually have a selection of sizes and colors.

    • I already have a few of this type of bottle but some of them do not have the rubber washer that fits around the ceramic stopper. Do you sell that single part separately or know where I can find it?
      Thanks
    • We don't sell these parts separately, but you should be able to find it at a store that sells supplies for beer and wine making.

    • Are these bottles sturdy enough to bottle homemade ginger beer from ginger beer plants? I like to have them sit on the counter for a couple of days to get the carbonation level I like. They won't explode, will they?
    • These bottles are very sturdy. They are the same type of bottles used to bottle beer, kombucha, and other carbonated beverages. As with any fermented product, you should exercise caution when storing the bottles for a long time at room temperature, but several days should be fine.

    • Is the amber color necessary? I have some of this type of bottle that used to contain lemonade, soda, etc., from a retail store. I considered washing them and using them for Kombucha, but they are clear.
    • No, the amber color is not necessary. You can totally use the ones you have! They would probably be perfect.

    • Does the side wire supposed to come down to seal the top on the opening of the bottle? Because mine does not closes tight but I can't get the side wire down. Please tell me what's normal.
    • Yes, the side wire flips down to seal the top but the tops can be a little stiff when they are new. They will loosen up as you use them.

Worked great! Review by HH

Great quality, great price, and work well for making my water kefir. I found I have better luck with I only fill them about 1/2 way during the 2nd ferment, as I get more carbonation faster. I just wish they came in clear glass as well.

Bottles shipped quick. Just in time for our first batch. We added some blueberries to the kombucha and watched them bob up and down in the kombucha fizz. The bottles seal great. Good product. Thanks!

I love these bottles. They are well made. I even dropped one a few feet and it didn't break or anything. I use them for my water kefir and have 3. The only complaint is that the second fermentation got a little out of hand a few times and the metal clip chipped the glass on the top of the bottle when I opened it. I highly recommend this product.

Excellent for Water Kefir Second Ferment Review by Steph
Quality

Value

I've been making water kefir with only a single ferment for almost 10 years and these bottles have been a great investment. I bought three, to use for 2 quarts of kefir and need to buy three more so we can start a second batch and have fresh kefir every day.

These bottles make the kefir fizzier than I have ever been able to do with other containers. My only caution is that you MUST burp them every 12-24 hours. We learned the hard way that, given enough pressure, the lids can still pop off and hit the ceiling (fortunately no one was hurt).

I love these bottles, at first they were a bit hard to seal and unseal. Now they seem just fine. It does make the kefir water fizzy pretty fast. Can't wait to try the kombucha in them.

grolsch flip-top bottles get my thumbs up Review by heidi

True, when new they are stiff! However it didn't take many batches of Kombucha before they had loosened enough that even my wimpy hands could open and close them rather than asking my hubby to. We found that pressing down on the top with one hand while opening or closing the flip-top with the other makes it significantly easier. Your hands are also in a better position to control the fizz once the top is flipped.

A fix for weak fingers and, yes, these are worth it! Review by oneofthesedays

Quality bottle in every way. Like other reviewers have stated, my old fingers also did not like the tight bail, so I put a small "ty-wrap" (cable tie) in the bail of each bottle that I can fit two fingers through and pull while holding the thumb of my other hand over the stopper ... Works like a charm. Hope this is helpful because these bottles are really worth the bucks.

I bought 12 & gave 8 to my son & his wife & family for Christmas. They all love water kefir & will be using them for that. The quality looks good,I haven't had a chance to try them out yet but they look the same as the ones I have & really like & so have no reason to doubt that they won't perform. The others I bought with a drink in them so I don't know what they would've cost, but I thought yours were reasonable priced!

Great bottles, grest price Review by Kath

I love these bottles. They are a good size, about 25 oz. and fit in my fridge door. They are sturdy, easy to open and close, and I like the dark color. The first time I used them they were hard to open and close. After a few times they loosened up, but still have a tight fit when closed. I did a second ferment with this bottle, forgot about it, and even after 5 days the bottle did not break. It popped (almost exploded) like a champagne cork when opened, and the kefir water was VERY fizzy. The first time I ordered 3 bottles. The second time I ordered four and they came in a box that I can use for storage. From now on I will order 4 at a time.

The transaction and shipping were flawless, and the bottles arrived in excellent condition. I use them for water kefir, for which they are perfect. My only "issue" with them is they are difficult for me to seal/open, probably because I have some arthritis.

I purchased 6 of these bottles for making my water kefir, and I don't know how I would do it without them. They're perfect for the second level of culturing if you want a bubbly 'soda' type drink. I may need to order more to keep up with our production. I was also pleasantly surprised that the cost of shipping wasn't prohibitive.

very difficult to open Review by amomweg

I bought one of these some time ago and have been very happy with it. I bought two more as I am increasing my repertoire of homemade sodas. The problem is that the wire is so tight that I cannot open it gently. I have to use a screwdriver, and when it pops, the carbonated drink explodes all over the place. I think this particular batch may have slipped through quality control.
