    • Would this work with non dairy yogurts? They are so much thinner than regular yogurt almost like Kefir consistency. I am allergic to the commonly used thickeners so can't use those to thicken it.
    • The strainer works beautifully with kefir, it should work just as well with a thin yogurt.

Not worth the price Review by Steph

The quality of materials is substandard for the price. It works well, however I can already tell it will not hold up for repeated uses.

The delicate mesh is perfect for straining yogurt or milk kefir but it is best to be gentle with the strainer. Place your fermented dairy in the strainer and place it in the fridge to strain, If you stir your fermented dairy to speed up the process (usually kefir), use a silicone spatula. Gently hand wash the yogurt maker to clean.

This product works so much better than putting your yogurt in a bag or towel and hanging it from the cupboard knob above. It's easy to clean and fits nicely over a bowl. I recommend it highly.

Best method ever! Review by Julie

Previously to drain whey from yogurt to make cultured products from recipes in my Nourishing Traditions Cookbook I used a nylon seed sprouting bag hanging on my banana holder hook suspended over a bowl. This Greek Yogurt Maker is so much better, hygienic, easy to remove the yogurt from, easy to clean and my wheu is a beautiful, clear liquid, unlike what I got from the bag method and the yogurt is thick and wonderful. Great recipe for Key Lime Pie in the booklet too. I am thrilled!

Wonderful Way to Drip Whey! Review by Pam

I'm fairly new to making greek yogurt (2 months). Let me tell you, I may never go back to dripping my yogurt in a bag! The bags are functional, sloppy and really hard to get the remains of the yogurt out. The Greek Yogurt Maker is just the thing! First, it has more area to drip from into the handy catch bowl. Yes, the bags cost less, but I vote for the ease and efficiency of the Greek Yogurt Maker! It's inside the refrigerator which will keep the yogurt fresher. What a wonderful device! Many thanks for adding it to your inventory. Pam

I appreciate the size, with a suggestion for improvement Review by Jay

The first time (and only time) I used this strainer, it allowed quite a bit of milk/cream to come through, not just the whey. As I was specifically draining the yogurt to get the whey for use in making sauerkraut, this wasn't ideal. I am not sure if this was due to the particular yogurt I strained. I've not had this happen before when using the smaller yogurt strainers.
If I could re-design one thing about the yogurt strainer, it would be to open the top of the inner cone for easier cleaning and/or as a handle. If you have an open top, sort of like an angel food cake pan, you could lift it, place it on a wine bottle to dry, etc.
I will try it a second time, with a different type of yogurt to see whether I can get just the whey to come through the strainer.

CFH Response~ The unit works very well with homemade yogurt where you can control the culturing process however we have a lot of customers using the yogurt strainer with store bought yogurt as well. A different brand may give you better results. Excellent recommendations for changes to the yogurt maker!

NICE Greek Yogurt Maker Review by J

How simple can this process be? Buy (or make) yogurt; pour into mesh strainer; set in fridge; wait 1-3 days while the whey drains out; gently scrape the thick yogurt from the strainer; eat. I buy organic non-fat yogurt with extra probiotics and strain for 72 hours. The result is a super creamy, thick, rich yogurt that tastes very much like sour cream. GREAT STUFF.

This is the best tool ever! It lets the yogurt drain off whey and leaves you with the thickest, creamiest yogurt ever! Way better than what you get at the store! And you can control what is in your own yogurt by making it at home! Easy to clean by filling bottom with warm soapy water and soaking the mesh inside for a bit and rinsing well. Love that the top seals and keeps out fridge smells.

Works well Review by Joe

I use this product for straining cheese. Easy to maintain. After I make a simple goat cheese, I pour off most of the whey, than put the cheese and residual whey in here and place in the refrigerator. The whey collects in the bottom, leaving a dry, crumbly, cheese. The lid fits nice and tight so that the cheese does not absorb any aroma, and the cheese can be kept in it for days. The netting has to be treated gently. I clean just with a spray of water and, if necessary, some baking soda. Highly recommend.

I was using cheesecloth to strain my homemade yogurt. Now I don't have to buy more cheesecloth for this. This justifies the cost of the strainer. Very tasty greek yogurt. Thanks for a great, informative website.

The strainer is so easy to use and to clean. It has saved me so much trouble! And it produce quality Greek yogurt. It is worth twice what I paid for it; I just could't buy it if it cost double. Excellent, useful investment! And it takes a half gallon at the time.

I really didn't want to spend $25 on a strainer, but I didn't have anything at home that would hold that much yogurt. It's really nice, and now I am glad I have it.

Better than I anticipated Review by Suca

I was hesitant about buying something I would only use for one thing. We live in a small house with a small kitchen. I used to tough it out with coffee filters and filter holders. I have no regrets buying this! It works great and makes good Greek yogurt. On top of that it was 35% less than buying it locally, even with the postage. I like to support local business, but it didn't make sense in this case.

Used this the same day I received it in the mail and it is perfect, efficient, keeps bugs out! One comment, will get more whey from the yogurt if left at room temperature. This is 100 percent more efficient than using the odd containers and metal strainer that I was using before. Great invention on someone's part! Question, (this hasn't happened actually) what if the nylon straining material rips! Buy a replacement filter, etc?

Response from CFH: EuroCuisine does make a mesh replacement for the Greek Yogurt Maker. It is available through EuroCuisine directly. The mesh is durable and if cared for properly, should last quite some time.

My experience with this is similar to the other users. It works very nicely to strain the whey from yogurt, and is much easier and much less messy than cheesecloth or a cloth sac. It cleans easily and quickly under lightly flowing warm water. I think it's perhaps a few dollars more than such a simple device should cost, but I have no regrets purchasing it for the price I did.
