This cabbage crusher was exactly what I needed to make my kraut. The fact that it was coated in a natural oil and not some synthetic chemical was what was most important to me not to mention it worked great.

I was surprised at how much these crushers run (other comparable products out there all seem to be about the same price) but now I see it's for good reason; This crusher is solid, comfortable to grip, and makes the job super easy. Plus, I'm sure this little work horse could be handed down to future generations with good careā€¦ So don't let the cost hold you back, it's totally worth it!

I haven't used this for cabbage yet but find it very handy for pushing down lemons to ferment and a veggie combination of carrots, onions, etc. I can see using for lots of preparations in the future. It's nice and heavy and does a thorough job.

This crusher is beautifully formed and does a good job. Periodically, I saturate its surface with walnut oil. Whoever made this had an excellent artistic and practical talent.

I have just used it once, but it was very comfortable in my hand and pounded the cabbage properly. It is made of beautiful wood, very smooth to touch. I will conserve it with the butcher's block oil. Thank you!

This is a must have tool for anyone making sauerkraut or other ferments that need to be worked. Very high quality wood tool. So much easier to use, hold, and work with to pound cabbage then other kitchen stand-ins. A little pricy but worth it!

I had no intentions of purchasing one of these right now but was placing an order for some cheese molds and my sister asked me to get her one. After going on and seeing them i decided i have to get one for myself also, nice product, fits very comfortably in your hand. Feels of excellent quality. A little pricy but this is one of those things that you think is going to be well worth the price in durability in the long run.

I hesitated on this because you don't HAVE to have this product to create delicious fermented foods. However, using this made it so much easier. And what's not to like about easier? And, because of the item and the quality of it, I know that I will have it for years and years. It will be a "legacy" item that can be passed on to my children. (After all, I have a young organic farmer in my family!)

    • Is this used for pounding in a canning jar? And it won't break the jar?
    • The Kraut Pounder is used to mash the cabbage, bringing out the juices for the fermenting process. It is very helpful, but certainly not necessary to make sauerkraut. You can use it in a wide mouth canning jar, but we recommend that you press, rather than pounding with it inside the jar. This will compact your veggies without damaging the jar.
