Our cultured buttermilk starter is active and stable containing live active bacteria. With care the buttermilk starter can be serial cultured--recultured each week to make a new batch of delicious homemade buttermilk. Using a traditional buttermilk starter allows you to make buttermilk at a fraction of the cost while also avoiding the additives and stabilizers common in commercial varieties.
Our buttermilk starter culture at room temperature--simply add the buttermilk starter to cold milk and allow it to sit on the counter for 12-18 hours. Making buttermilk doesn't get any easier than this!
