Why we love our Excalibur Food Dehydrator:
Here at CFH we are in love with our Excalibur Food Dehydrator. Excalibur Food Dehydrators are well made, sturdy, and reliable. They offer low temperature settings making them perfect for fermenting and culturing (counter-top yogurt starters, dairy kefir, kombucha, or vegetable ferments) even when your home is on the cooler side. (We suggest barely turning the temperature setting on for a nice room temperature setting.) An Excalibur Food Dehydrator even doubles as a yogurt maker for culturing our Traditional Greek yogurt starter (or any other yogurt starter requiring heat). As a bonus, they are also energy-efficient! According to the manufacturer, an Excalibur Food Dehydrators only uses $.04-$.05 of electricity per hour!

Questions on 9-Tray Excalibur Food Dehydrator 3900
- From Cheryl at 10/15/12 1:53 PM
- Is there an advantage to using stainless steel trays versus the plastic? Do the Paraflex sheets have to be purchased separately?
- The advantage of using stainless steel vs. plastic is usually one of preference. One might feel the steel is stronger and looks nicer than the plastic. Many people who wish to avoid plastic choose stainless steel.
The Paraflexx sheets are added on to the price of the dehydrator should you choose to purchase them. For example, Model 3900 gives you the choice of none, 5 for $37.50, or 9 for $67.50, essentially $7.50 per sheet. - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

- I can't decide between the 5 tray or 9 tray excalibur...can i still do small batches in the 9 tray? Thanks!
- Yes, you can do small batches in the 9 tray. If you're dehydrating for a family (even a small one) and the 9 tray is in the budget, I would highly recommend a 9 tray.

- I'm interested in reading any reviews comparing the TSM D-10 to Excalibur. I like the stainless steel of TSM on EVERYTHING, including the box of the unit itself.
-Do you use/recommend one over the other?
-How do they compare in weight? (Since it's portable, would probably be moving it around a lot!)
-Comments on heating plastic units vs. stainless steel for health?
- The Excalibur 3900 weighs about 24 pounds, making it not all that portable - more like a small microwave. You CAN move it around, but you probably won't want to. The TSM D-5 weighs about 40-45 pounds, and the D-10 is around 60. All of them are lighter with the trays removed.
Both Excalibur and TSM products come well recommended and are very popular.
We can't comment on health benefits for our products! The plastic is food-grade, as is the stainless steel. - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

- Is the Paraflexx liner a flexible plastic? Are the included trays a hard plastic? Is the unit itself also plastic?
- Paraflexx is silicon, not plastic. It's flexible, non-stick, and food-grade. The dehydrator itself and the included trays are plastic. You can order stainless steel trays separately.

- Does this model have a built-in timer?
- This model does not have a built in timer. You can however buy one of those timers that you plug into lights at the hardware store. They are ususally around $10 and work perfectly for dehydrators.
Hope that helps!

- wonderful investment Review by Audrey

This has been a wonderful investment. We use it to dry fruits mostly, but it worked great when I recently dried some herbs, made fruit roll ups and my first attempt at both yogurt and buttermilk were perfect. Cultures for Health provided excellent customer service and very quick order fulfillment. I couldn't be happier! (Posted on September 21, 2012)Value Quality Price
- 9-Tray Excalibur Food Dehydrator Review by Beemergranny

We have had this dehydrator for 2 years now and just love it! Very reliable, easy to use and clean and holds a lot of food at one time. We have dehydrated garden produce and made Jerky in it a lot. I also use it to proof my bread dough. We would NOT be without this dehydrator....best there is. (Posted on March 28, 2012)Value Quality Price
