Why we love our Excalibur Food Dehydrator:
Here at CFH we are in love with our Excalibur Food Dehydrator. Excalibur Food Dehydrators are well-made, sturdy, and reliable. They offer low-temperature settings making them perfect for fermenting and culturing (counter-top yogurt starters, dairy kefir, kombucha, or vegetable ferments) even when your home is on the cooler side. (We suggest barely turning the temperature setting on and running with the door propped open or removed for a nice room-temperature setting.) The Excalibur Food Dehydrator can even double as a yogurt maker for culturing our Greek yogurt starter (or any other yogurt starter requiring heat). As a bonus, they are also energy efficient! According to the manufacturer, an Excalibur Food Dehydrator only uses $.04-$.05 of electricity per hour!

    • What does the 440 watt fan or other upgrades make possible, functionally, in the Deluxe model that is not possible with the Economy model? Or is it simply that they make the Deluxe model sturdier to support a longer warranty?
    • Yes, the main difference is that the sturdier fan allows for a longer warranty. The larger fan may also have a slight impact on drying efficiency. Both models are excellent dehydrators.

    • I have never tried using a dehydrator, but am interested in this version. What are the benefits of the ParaFlexx sheets and the stainless steel trays?
    • The ParaFlexx sheets are wonderful for making fruit leathers and items that might seep through the mesh trays. They can also be used as a liner for your cookie sheets! The stainless steel trays are great for general purpose and work especially well for dehydrating meat (for example, beef jerky).

Both have plastic trays, adjustable thermostat, and 8 square feet of capacity for the 5 tray versions, according to the product descriptions, and no differences are listed.
    • The Deluxe version has upgraded parts (440 watt fan etc.) and a 10 year warranty instead of 5 years.

Great little dehydrator Review by Alyssa

I've used this to make yogurt and a few batches of granola. It's worked perfectly every time! The down side is the fan is pretty loud (I live in a studio so it's hard to sleep when I have it running).
